Earth-That-Was could no longer sustain our numbers, we were so many. We found a new star system, with dozens of planets, and hundreds of moons. Each one terraformed to sustain human life, to become new Earths.
The Black is more than just stars and skies, its a vast multi-cluster collection of star systems orbiting the White Sun, a giant superstar that anchors as the heart of the 'Verse. Playable space is segregated into three rings, each with nebulae color-coded for their own powers and perils.

Every planet that's been terraformed to support human life, has its own little Quirks. For those who call it their Homeworld, and those who visit for too long, its the Quirks that get under your skin. These side-effects leave a debilitating affliction on your hide. Survival in the Black ain't just about guns and coin, its keeping your body and mind in one piece.
The Black ain't just empty space, its full of oddities that defy reality and reason. Call them Anomalies or nightmares, they are as dangerous as they are mysterious.
With multiple solar systems, the 'Verse chooses instead to shroud itself in a Fog of War, hiding all sources of solarlight to the nearest sun. As a fading light blinks out in your wake, the next nearest is abirth ahead. The single constant in this sea of darkness, is the distant flare of the White Sun. She is your true compass, and the last glimmer of hope to diminish as you enter deeper into a Void.
Beyond the outer Rim, maps end and systems fail. Here lies No Man’s Space, a dimension where even Reavers won't cross. Folk believe something watches us from that darkness, something older than Earth-That-Was. It keeps us to our own, reminding us that we are far from our origins, and living on borrowed dirt.
